Beethoven, Schubert, Wagner, this city oozes class, classical music and style. A true city of culture, Vienna should be on everyone’s bucket list. It is remarkable to think Beethoven might have produced even more wonderful pieces had he not been interrupted by the invasion from Napoleon. In fact, the sounds from outside during the seige led him to hide in his brothers basement and covering his ears with pillows. With around 1.8 million people living in Vienna, it is by far the most populated city in the country. With the snowy views making this a popular destination for winter holidays and Xmas breaks, it is probably unsurprising that the snowglobe was invented here. While Melbourne has won the Economist Intelligence Unit’s list of best places to live in the world every year since 2011, Vienna often finished in second and in 2018 it actually usurped Melbourne, taking top spot.
