Colombo, as it is for many, was our stopping ground once we flew in, before heading off along the coast. In general I tend not to be a huge fan…

The capital of Sri Lanka, this is the area you will fly into when you first visit Sri Lanka, however much like with any major capital, I normally recommend not spending too long in the destination before moving on to the next stop. Colombo has some great sights to see, including the likes of Gangaramaya temple and the national museum of Colombo. However I do want to warn you about the dodgy tuk tuk drivers, if the take you on a ‘tour’ or anywhere other than the destination you requested, instantly worry, you need to state the amount up front and make sure they don’t take you on any detours. If you plan on exploring the country a bit more, then it is worth having a read o my list of things to do in kandy. However if this is your main stop then certainly have a read of my list of things to do in Colombo. You should also stop off at the Viharamahadevi park for a photo, or even a picnic if there is time. It might feel awkward as a Brit, but you can admire the Independence Memorial Hall as well. As you may have guessed by the name, it was introduced by the Portuguese in 1505. One other attraction you may not be aware Colombo is known for is as a golfing resort.
